What is Moof? The Mutator, reimagined for guitar.

There are some sounds that become part of music history. The Mutronics Mutator is one of them.

Built around the now-obsolete SSM 2045 filter, the Mutator became a studio favourite, finding its way onto records by Radiohead, Beck, Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails, The Chemical Brothers and many more. Its distinctive filter sweeps became instantly recognisable, but its size, complexity and the scarcity of the original filter made it notoriously difficult to integrate into a guitar rig.

Until now.

Moof takes the essence of that classic analogue filter and puts it into a compact, guitar-friendly pedal.

At its heart is an upgraded version of the SSM 2045 filter, designed by Dave Rossum — the same designer behind the original filter. The result is remarkably close to the sound of the original Mutator.

But Moof isn't simply about recreating a piece of studio history. It's about putting that sound directly under your feet.

Three ways to make the filter move

Moof gives you multiple ways to control its cutoff frequency.

The envelope filter converts your guitar's input level into a control voltage, allowing the filter to respond dynamically to your playing. Adjustable sweep direction and three attack/release settings, (fast, medium and slow), let you shape how the filter responds.

The LFO provides continuous cyclic movement, from subtle modulation to full-on filter wobble.

And with external control inputs, you can take things further. Connect an external LFO, a suitable keyboard or other control source to manipulate the filter beyond the internal controls.

There's also an expression pedal input, giving you yet another way to sweep the cutoff frequency.
